Canlitpit 2022 event announced with BIG changes!

Canlitpit is an event where Canadian writers pitch completed, polished manuscripts via tweet for publishing professionals to browse. If an agent, editor, or publisher hearts a pitch, it means “please submit this manuscript to me.”

In 2021, canlitpit ran for the first time under new management. That day, we peaked at the #2 on the list of trending topic on Canadian Twitter! But there’s still room to grow, and that’s why we’re making this year’s event even better with not one but TWO opportunities for writers to get their work seen by publishing professionals.

The next live #canlitpit event will take place on June 1, 2022. This event will be relatively unchanged from last year: participating writers can pitch their completed, polished manuscripts on Twitter for publishing professionals to browse. But, it won’t just be publishing professionals browsing the feed.

This year, WritingCommunity.ca will also be hosting a private showcase in July. This is a second chance for writers to have their work seen by agents, editors, and publishers in a more relaxed environment that publishing professional can attend at their leisure. To get into the showcase, pitches from the live event will be hearted by #canlitpit organizers, and writers will submit their first 5 pages to WritingCommunity.ca for consideration for the showcase.

Just like with submissions to publishing professionals, a request doesn’t not equal acceptance, however the organizers of #canlitpit are committed to reading every pitch during the live event in order to generate a strong, diverse, curated showcase of the best canlit stories. The announcement of which manuscripts were selected for the showcase will be posted on Canada Day: July 1, 2022.

These changes were put in place in response to our exit survey feedback. Some of the themes that came out of that survey:
– making participation easier for publishing professionals
– giving writers more hope of their pitches/manuscripts getting read
– more buzz in advance of the event

We believe these changes will help ensure this year’s event is even better than last year’s. We already have a handful of publishing professionals interested in participating in the live event on June 1, and even more interested in the private showcase in July. We expect many more to sign up before June.
