Comp Title Curation

No matter what kind of manuscript you’ve written, Jes can help you find comp titles for it. This is one of the most difficult things for most writers to figure out, partly because it involves understanding the business of writing, not just the craft. Jes has many years experience in marketing and business communications and combines these skills with her publishing knowledge to curate a list of 10 recently published titles that she believes may make great comps for your manuscript. Query Letter Creation

Business letter writing is both an art and a science. Jes has a long history of marketing and business writing, and has edited many query letters for clients. If you need help selling yourself and your manuscript, Jes is your go-to person. Click here to visit the Query Letter Creation product page.

Developmental Editing

Jes is a professional editor with a special love for developmental editing and “book doctoring”. Jes can help with the development of plot, setting, characters, themes, pacing and more. Jes edits fiction, nonfiction, and poetry (short and long forms). Nonfiction genres that are a good fit for Jes include memoir, true crime, entrepreneurship, psychology, sociology, philosophy, and intersecting subjects. She is NOT a good fit for technical or spiritual books. In fiction, Jes is NOT a good fit for horror, western, or Christian fiction genres. Jes holds a special place in her heart for children’s literature, and is always excited to take on picture book, chapter book, middle grade, and young adult manuscripts.

Developmental editing rates are typically $.03/word (with a minimum charge of $50).

Sensitivity Reading

Jes provides sensitivity reading for manuscripts and ARCs that represent:

  • queer identities, especially gender non-conforming, omni-gender/gender fluid, bisexual, closeted, repressed, and/or quiet queer identities
  • mental health topics, including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, depression, anxiety, post-partum depression, and suicidal ideation
  • Femme issues, especially non-traditional parenting, domestic abuse, and hypersexuality
  • any intersectionalities of the above

If hiring Jes for a developmental edit of a manuscript, she will provide the sensitivity read for free as part of the developmental editing process. If hiring Jes just for a sensitivity read, the rate is typically $.02 per word (with a minimum charge of $50 per manuscript).

Line Editing

Jes provides line editing services to give your manuscript a significant stylistic boost. As a line editor, Jes will help you strengthen the flow of your manuscript from paragraph to paragraph, line to line, and word to word. She will also help you enhance your natural writer voice. Line editing is not the same as proofreading. At this stage, Jes won’t make corrections to spelling, grammar, or punctuation, but she will draw your attention to consistency errors made throughout the manuscript (e.g. consistent misuse of a particular word or punctuation mark).

The rate for line editing services is typically $.04 per word.

All rates are subject to Canadian HST of 13%.
