Pitch party for Canadians #canlitpit launches this week
#canlitpit, the Twitter pitch party for Canadians, is happening this Thursday, August 12, from 9 am to 9 pm. The event, now hosted by WritingCommunity.ca, was founded by DigiWriting.com in 2016.
#canlitpit is a Twitter pitch party just for Canadians. During the #canlitpit event, Canadian writers can pitch completed, polished manuscripts via tweet for agents, editors, and publishers to peruse. If an agent or editor gives a pitch a “heart”, it counts as a requested submission. The writer can then submit the manuscript as a requested submission. All participants should read the full rules and instructions at www.writingcommunity.ca/canlitpit.
Participating publishing professionals so far include:
-Book*hug Press
-BookLand Press
-Boulder Books
-Douglas & McIntyre
-P.S. Literary Agency
-PhotoED Magazine
-Palimpsest Press
-Pulp Literature Press
-Radiant Press
-Transatlantic Agency
-Turtle’s Back Publishing
Additional publishing professionals will likely participate without RSVP’ing. RSVPs can still be submitted via the #canlitpit participation survey.
Publishing professionals are reminded they do not need to be present on Twitter during the entire event, and they can even come back outside of the hours of the event to browse pitches. Writers are encouraged to keep their pitches posted after the event ends so late-coming publishing professionals can view them.
Only publishing professionals should heart pitches! It’s very bad form to like a pitch if you are not an agent, editor, or publisher. It gets a writer’s hopes up to get a heart only to find out it was a casual observer, not someone with the power to get their work published.
Writers should always vet every publishing professional before submitting. Just because a publishing professional likes a pitch, the writer doesn’t have to submit if it doesn’t appear to the right fit.

If you’re unable to participate this year, but would like to participate in 2022, we encourage you to subscribe.
