About Us
About the Company
WritingCommunity.ca is a Canadian-based social enterprise. We strive to promote the literary arts and support writers, first in our home region of Northern Ontario, second in our home country of Canada, and finally worldwide.
As part of that mission, we (Founders Jes and Vero) regularly post resources for the benefit of writers in these communities, and hold events like Indie Author Book Expo North.
WritingCommunity.ca is a safe space. We support marginalized writers from all under-represented communities, and do not tolerate any hate speech, discrimination, or micro-aggressions on this site or at any of our events.
Most events and resources are completely free, so how do we pay ourselves? Well, we don’t. We don’t currently make any money from WritingCommunity.ca, but maybe one day we’ll earn enough from affiliate links, services, or via Patreon to pay ourselves for the work we do here. If you’d like to learn more about how you can contribute, visit the Support Us page.
About the Team
Jes Trudel is a literary agent with The Rights Factory, and spent 15 years prior to that as a freelance editor and storytelling instructor. She’s been a guest presenter with SCBWI, the 12×12 Picture Book Challenge, Write For Kids, and TSNOTYAW podcast, and has contributed to BoldFace, Children’s Book Insider, and the SCBWI blog. She founded WritingCommunity.ca prior to becoming an agent. She also organizes writing-adjacent events in her local community.
