52 Cues Event Cancelled
Due to low uptake, 52 Cues has been cancelled. We’re working with prize donators to transfer them to other events and will be reaching out to anyone who has signed up to arrange prize collection.

Original post:
52 Cues (#52cues) is a fun, free, virtual event that encourages writers to keep the creative juices flowing year-round. To participate, simply come up with one new writing-related idea, concept, snippet, or sketch per week. Do this, and you’ll have 52 by the end of the year!
Writers can participate without registering or submitting any information to us, but if you do register, it puts your name in the draw for prizes throughout the year. Each cue counts as one ballot in the draw! To protect your IP, we never ask you to share your idea, only the number of ideas you’ve generated.
WritingCommunity.ca has been working with agents, editors, and other publishing professionals to accumulate prizes. Some prizes will not be distributed until the 2022 event is over in 2023, but others will be drawn at surprise moments throughout the year. If you don’t come back and fill out your ballots early, you might miss out on a special surprise draw!
The prize list (so far) is as follows:
- Special submission window to Ali McDonald of 5 Otter Literary (normally open by referral only)
- A one-year subscription to The Malahat Review
- First chapter/first 10 pages feedback from Second Story Press
- Outline or synopsis analyses from WritingCommunity.ca
- 1 one-hour virtual coaching session from WritingCommunity.ca
We expect this list to grow over the next several months. In the meantime, if you have not yet registered, you can do so via our 52 Cues Goggle form. It’s never too late to join!
You can learn more about 52 Cues and stay up-to-date on the draws and prizes via the contest page.
