WritingCommunity.ca on semi-hiatus

WritingCommunity.ca has been bringing you free writing resources and innovative services since 2020, but, at least for the next few months, things are going to change.

The Founder, Jes Trudel, has been trying for many years to break into publishing. She thought she’d had her big break in 2019, when she was hired as a Junior Editorial Intern for a small press. But as the pandemic began, the press closed, and ever since she’s been looking for another position in publishing.

This week, Jes got another chance. She was hired as Editorial Assistant with The Rights Factory! The position starts immediately and has the potential to turn into a full-time position as a Literary Agent — Jes’ all time dream!

Jes is delighted and so thankful to all the writers who’ve already celebrated with her on Twitter, but is sad to say that means she will need to cut back on her responsibilities here. She will be suspending certain activities that are especially time consuming, including Author Talks, book reviews, the Kidlit Questionnaire, canlitpit, and the Query Hacker video series. She also won’t be taking on any large editorial projects (if you’re not sure if your project is considered “large”, please feel free to reach out directly to Jes just in case there’s room in her calendar).

But not everything will be ending! Jes will continue to offer the Comp Title Curation Service, and will continue to update the Pitch Party Schedule (though perhaps not as frequently as she did before). These were by far the two most popular reasons writers visited this site, after all. 🙂 And she will still be planning and organizing the Northern Ontario Book Fair (currently rebranding as the Indie Author Book Expo).

This semi-hiatus could be temporary. Jes will also be taking Humber College’s post-graduate program in Creative Book Publishing from May to August, so part of this hiatus is in anticipation of those extra busy months. Please continue to check back here for updates!

Thank you so much to all the writers, readers, editors, publishing professionals, and many others who have frequented this site and made it such a success. Jes hopes you will continue to follow her on Twitter @jes_trudel.
